Practical guide for selecting typographic materials
Choosing paper for a corporate catalog is not just an aesthetic matter, but a strategic one. In this article, we analyze the types of paper available on the Romanian market, from standard offset to matte or glossy finishes. We will discuss grammage, opacity, and durability, as well as how each of these characteristics contributes to the longevity and visual impact of your advertising materials. We also offer concrete recommendations for different budgets and print volumes.
Paper density, measured in g/m², directly influences the perceived quality of the catalog. For a standard corporate catalog, we recommend a grammage between 150 and 200 g/m² for the interior and 250–300 g/m² for the cover. A matte finish reduces reflections and offers an elegant look, while gloss intensifies colors and graphic details. Texture can vary from smooth to slightly satin, depending on the desired effect.
Opacity is essential to avoid unwanted transparency between pages. High-opacity papers are ideal for catalogs with many images or dense text. Tear and fold resistance ensure the material's longevity, especially for catalogs frequently circulated at trade fairs or business meetings.
For small print runs (under 500 copies), matte or glossy paper from European manufacturers offers an excellent quality-price ratio. For large volumes, standard offset paper remains an economical solution, but with a reduced visual impact. Regardless of the budget, physically testing samples before printing is a step you should not skip.
